Hyperpigmentation is a pigment hyperplasia skin disease that troubles middle-aged and young women. Its main manifestation is the appearance of irregularly shaped, varying-sized pigmented spots on the face, typically light brown, yellow-brown, or coffee-colored, sometimes pale black. Usually symmetrically distributed around the eyes, forehead, cheekbones, nasal sides, and around the mouth, with clear borders, smooth surface, non-pruritic, non-painful, and no desquamation.
The exact cause of hyperpigmentation remains unclear, but it appears related to multiple factors. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment can achieve satisfactory results.
TCM believes that impaired liver function leads to stagnation of qi, which over time transforms into fire, scorching yin and blood, causing poor blood circulation and disharmony of facial qi and blood; spleen deficiency impairs transformation and transportation, failing to generate essence and nutrients, thus depriving the face of nourishment; kidney yang deficiency and kidney essence depletion also contribute to the development of hyperpigmentation.
