Formula Name: Detoxifying and Swelling-Reducing Formula
【Function & Indications】Clears heat and detoxifies, reduces swelling and relieves pain. Treats acute suppurative meibomian glanditis.
【Composition】Huangqin 15g, Lianqiao 15g, Erhua 15g, Shengdi 15g, Fangfeng 10g, Chuanxiong 10g, Bai zhi 10g, Baizhu 10g, Zhi shi 10g, Gancao 5g, Dahuang 10g. Decoct and take orally.
【Differential Diagnosis & Modifications】If spleen-stomach deficiency with loose stools and fatigue are present, remove Dahuang, Shengdi, and Bai zhi; add Dangshen, Danggui, and Huangqi.

【Comment】Wang’s treatment not only clears heat and reduces swelling but also uses Dahuang and Zhi shi for promoting bowel movement and clearing heat stagnation. Heat-clearing has three pathways: diaphoresis, diuresis, and purgation. Wang combines heat-clearing with purgation, complementing each other effectively.
