🌿 Treatment of Chronic Colitis in the Elderly
Chronic colitis is an umbrella term encompassing both specific and non-specific types. Though differing in details, the basic pathology involves congestion, edema, increased fragility, and easy bleeding of the colonic mucosa. Clinical manifestations include abdominal pain, diarrhea, intestinal rumbling, bloating, rectal prolapse, mucus or pus in stool, alternating constipation and diarrhea, prolonged course with recurrent episodes lasting from months to decades. Due to digestive dysfunction and inadequate nutrition, patients may develop emaciation, anemia, fatigue, or even weakness. Severe cases may lead to massive intestinal bleeding, perforation, or malignancy.
